Gamevine Week in Review (03/17/08 - 03/23/08)
Here are the Gamevine highlights for the week of March 17th through March 23rd, 2008.
This week's top stories, delivered hot and fresh!
SSBB Crushes Sales Record: Maybe this should have been tagged with "not news", but the eagerly anticipated Super Smash Bros. Brawl dropped 1.4 million units in it's first week making it the fastest selling video game in Nintendo of America's history
. For a little perspective, the title sold 874,000 on March 9th, the first day it became available.

PA's $10,000 Scholarship: Those foul-mouth philanthropic funny-men are at it again. For the second year in a row Gabe and Tycho (Mike and Jerry) have announced that they will be awarding a $10,000 scholarship to a worthy student who would like to further there education in the gaming industry. For all the times they drop a @!$%# and a @!$%# in their comic these guys are still a class act in my book.

FSC Sanctions JT: Everyone likes to be heard. When it comes to the Florida Supreme Court hearing anything from Jack Thompson, they've now placed a sanction on him stating that if J.T. wants to file anything with the Court, he's going to need to hire another lawyer to do it on his behalf. Justice may be blind but she's now deaf, and apparently she couldn't take his frivolous lawsuit and inane rantings at the tax-payers expense any longer either.

Original works from game fans, for game fans.
Sims 2: Part 3...Plant Sims: In part 3 of Sim2Luv's continuing saga we learn about the Plant Babies of The Sims 2. Now I haven't played The Sims in a long time, but I don't remember anything about this and it's quite fascinating how in depth the game gets with some of these abstract concepts.

Yeah, it was a super-light week, but then it was the week of Easter. Maybe game developers were too busy buying chocolate bunnies and dying easter eggs.
I voted for PA, just because the other two are kind of non-stories. Brawl sold a lot? Wowee! And JT is off my radar completely out of sheer principle.
I actually liked the rat-basement storyline, particularly the Wednesday comic. Nice little bone thrown at the end to an old reference, too.
I'm a little disappointed in not seeing the Star Wars retrospective of this week go up to GameTrailers. But I'm sure it will be along shortly.
I thought Halo 3 did at least a million on the first day...
...ah, that's NoA's history. I'm still glad JT is sanctioned.

Yeah, if only Brawl had aligned itself with Mountain Dew.
Hey, I bought Halo 3 the day after release. :-p
That being said, I just bought SSBB tonight. Being barely a SSB Melee dilettante, I say it's glorious.
SSBB character spoilers:
Some of the characters really feel like filler, though. Lucas, anyone? However, some of the new characters are balls-out awesome. My girlfriend's gonna love Pokemon Trainer. I'm looking forward to unlocking Solid Snake, if only because I can't imagine how the heck he's going to fit in with the rest of the cast.
